Love Potion Number One

When I was on my way to Neriak earlier I stumbled upon a kerra questgiver. She was standing next to Dog Trapper Lake in Commonlands (the one closest to the Neriak entrance), not far from the Wailing Caves. She had a quest called "Love potion number one". I looked it up and it was an Erollisi day quest, apparently the only one still in effect (I sure didn't find any others for the Freeport area). I headed over to Antonica and -1380,-39,-877 for the first flower. The waypoints messed up and sent me halfway across the zone in the wrong direction. Then I tried again and it gave me a different location. If you have EQ2 maps it is listed on there, but there are many things noted in Antonica so it can be hard to find. The flowers (only need one) grow along the beach up by ruins of Caltorsis.

Then it was on to the zone the Graveyard for the next flower. I already used up my call of the overlord spell and had 7 minutes left on it so I used my call of Ro instead. Then I just had to zone to Sinking Sands and thereafter choose return to Freeport from the carpet. The Graveyard is located both off Commonlands, and the location of the flower is -25,-9,63.

Then it was time to kill a fairy, I had heard that any of them would work, including the ones in Darklight Wood, so I headed over there. I got the update and the approximate loc for the Sullian fairies is 49, -36, -171.

Next step was to see a fortune teller in the Wanderlust fair in Darklight Wood (you now see why I chose the fairies in Darklight Wood). Waypoint is 246,-19,-1. She wouldn't talk to me and I was wondering if quest was broken, but then I realized that right next to her is where you have to brew the love potion.

Next step was to find Luc in Enchanted Lands, in a tavern close to the docks. It was easy enough to use the carpet to Sinking Sands from the Wanderlust fair, then to East Freeport and then use the ticket to Nektulos Forest for a quick zoning to Enchanted Lands. Yep, he is in the tavern right by the docks and after you speak to him you receive your reward, an Erollisi Mistletoe.

Pretty neat, but oh so difficult to place (at least in my house). There is an option to choose that says stand under mistletoe but it does nothing (and no rent reduction either), guess because I was the only person in my house? I don't know but it was an easy quest (scales to level).

Please see here

Today someone is posting comments and saying please see here, when I reject the comment they post another one. Why? Because it is a spam link for this useless program called XP antivirus. If you get it on your blog just reject it, don't click on the link. Some people need to get a life, eh?

What to do with an halasian bearskin rug

I occasionally hear people talk about this and I mention that I have a bridge set up in my house but I doubt anyone ever goes there except some friends. So here is a picture of the bridge along with the examine window for the rug. I'm not sure why there looks to be a rug missing, it didn't look that way when I took the screenshot, maybe my pets were playing tricks on me /shrug.

Power of Hate quest

There are different places to receive the quest. Some quest info I found said that for Freeport it would be North Freeport (and it probably is) but I found a quest npc that gave the same quest in West Freeport close to the gate to the Commonlands. Reward? A house item called the Fires of Anguish.

As a side note, I'm not sure what they did to the gamma. The last patch said they re-set it. I set my gamma again (I saved the settings of course) and it was fine then I log into today and the gamma looks different. Okay, so I re-set it again but then it looks messed up after I zone anyways. I'll figure it out I guess or maybe they will fix it with the next patch.

Shard of Hate - new zone

Shard of Hate is a raid x 4 zone and you have to be at least level 75 to enter the zone. I zoned in there for a quick look today and the little bit I saw it does look a lot like the old plane of Hate from EQ1 (nicer graphics of course, but still). The mobs at the entrance are level 80^^^ epic x 4.

Word of note, when I tried to double-click on the entrance to Shard of Hate from the Neriak zone (might be same for other access places) it wouldn't do anything. I then right-clicked to see if there were different options. The top choice is examine and the second one is enter the portal.

Server down - April 8 - Game Update 44

The EQ2 servers went down at about 7 am PST this morning and estimated downtime is 3 hours. Yep, it is GU 44 being done.

Here is the lowdown:

Game Update #44 April / 8 / 2008
HIGHLIGHTS

The Shard of Hate is now open for high level raid groups willing to try their mettle against the Maestro. The influx of hatred into the world is affecting many throughout Norrath with increased hostility clearly evident.

Two new armored wargs have been discovered. Potential owners should look for the new beasts in Kunark.

Ranged weapons will no longer scale down to that level unless the ammo is significantly lower than the weapon. For example, all ferrite ammo is now level 70 to use. Level 80 ranged weapons will use level 80 for calculations now instead of scaling down to level 70. Overall damage of current level 80 items will stay the same.

CLIENT DETAILS

The client will automatically enable a low-memory mode when you are running low on memory. The low-memory mode will downsample far away textures and unload geometry that hasn’t been drawn in a while. The low-memory mode should generally be invisible.

Performance settings were adjusted slightly for better rendering at lower qualities without significantly impacting performance.
Flora will now only be rendered on High Quality settings and above.
Objects will not disappear as quickly on lower settings

The client is Large Address Aware, meaning that you are much less likely to run out of memory if you have 3GB or more of RAM and are running either the 64-bit versions of Windows or have modified your boot.ini to support 3GB user address space.

Color Profile changes:
If you have a desktop color profile configured (or your gamma ramp changed), the client is better about restoring your settings when it exits.
The client no longer overwrites your color profile settings with its own. Instead, the gamma values in the Options -> Display -> Color Correction modify the desktop color profile settings. This means that if all of the client's Color Correction settings are left at defaults (brightness at 0.0, contrast at 1.0, gamma values at 1.0) the client will use your desktop color profile settings.
Crashes should be better about restoring your color profile.

UI

Spell icons should no longer tint during casting or recovery.

Whoah they actually addressed the issue with 64 bit windows too! As you might remember, I used to run Windows 64 bit until it crashed (nuff said) and I couldn't find my disc for it so I loaded up Windows XP for it.

Lore and legend Drolvarg - Karnor's castle

I have done a lot of the lore and legends, but the lore and legend drolvarg was one of the ones I hadn't gotten around to yet. I decided to go there today and although it wasn't a solo zone (at least for me) my intent was to get the lore and legend book and get out of there. Every important mob on the way to the book sees invis. I ran the wrong way once (that waypoint path got all glitchy) and I ran into some skeletons that didn't see invis (but at least I got achievement experience for discovering that area).

I'm not a monk, and although my fd reuse time has been shortened through AA points as much as I could, it still takes about 2 minutes to re-pop. It took me a while to get there, but I made it with only one death (I misjudged how many drolvargs could be bashing on me at one time).

The drolvargs at the entrance are level 72^^^ heroic, but the drolvargs quickly go up to 74^^^ heroic and there are some 75^^^ heroics as well. Close to where the book is there is also a level 80^^^ heroic standing around (I didn't stop to say hi).

The book is located in the Commander's room in Karnor's Castle (located off Kylong Plains) and the book is called "Man or Beast: the Drolvarg". The book is in a small box right next to a bed in The Commander's quarters located at -177, -42, 54. When you put your curser over it, you get a loot icon, double click on box, it will go to "use" and once it is done with that you get the book in your inventory.

So how do you get to the book? Well, this is the best way: enter the main building past the two guards, go forward (straight), go through the first room and then over the moat. After the moat, take a left. This brings you to the Rhino's stables. They are non aggro (good place to fd when you are followed by a gang of drolvargs).

Go all the way up the stairs (at about halfway up the stairs the path might tell you hey it's over here, but it isn't). When you get to the top of the stairs, make a left. At the first junction make a right and go straight until you have to go right. If you see the 80^^^ heroic you know you are close. There will be two level 74s guarding the entrance to the Commander's quarters. As soon as you get through the little hallway, make an immediate left. There is a wandering officer in the room, but you can easily observe his path and avoid him, double click on the box, get the book and port out of there.

Was it worth it? Well the repair bill wasn't that high and there are tons of drolvargs out in Kylong Plains which will make it a whole lot easier to complete this quest.
