Just another old patch

Yep... it wasn't GU 51 today but it is coming. Today they did the following:

Hotfix January / 28 / 2009
CLIENT
Shutting down the client is now faster on non-multicore machines.

DUNGEONS
The gates in Ruins of Guk: Ykesha’s Outer Stronghold should no longer seal themselves on a saved persistent instance.

RAIDS
The switchmaster in Palace of the Ancient One should cast Exothermic Explosion more reliably. Grummus in Antonica should use his Gigantic Sweep ability more reliably as well.
The Mystmerian Wraiths that spawn during the Zarrakon encounter now have even less health, and the min duration between spawns was increased slightly.

ARGH! EQ2 nerf- soon to be incoming mob GU 51

Well the weather totally sucks and it is really could outside, so I decided to log in for a few minutes. That is just what it turned out to be, server coming down message popped in pretty soon. Let it be too that our cable company blows (never get Comcast if you have another option) so the internet is even slow today. Could of course have to do with the sucky weather but during any sorts of weather there can be problems with Comcast. Now where was I, back to Norrath, oh yeah server is down. Okay, so what is happening? Game update 51 is coming soon to a computer near you. What is new for this update and what is it called (besides obviously GU 51. Oh wait I already said that /drinks more pepsi).

Game update 51, also known as GU 51 - "Lucan's Art of War" brings some changes to our world of Norrath.

- Stances will become more meaningful. Using the defensive stance will now mean more in being a good tank. Taunts will be more effective.

- The Hate Meter. Now what the Norrath is that? It is an addition to the UI. It is measured in percentage and will of course show how much you are ticking the mob off. The tank will be at 100 percent. Any other percentage will show how close you are to the tank. Hate meter is toggleable (/togglethreatwindow or CTRL - T). Range secondary or offtanks probably want to be right around 81 percent. If you don't want to get it you should hover around 22 percent.

- So how does this affect your toon? Well this will be interesting to see. I have always liked my shadowknight, nerfs come and gone, soloing, grouping or raiding. What is GU 51 going to do to the shadowknight, berserker and bruiser? According to EQ2 players they are AE (area of effect/group target) tanks. Okay, so what's new... Most of us already know that this is the strength of this class, pull as many mobs as you can handle and kill fast. Sure they can take out a single target fast too, and can make an excellent tank as well. With these changes though, EQ2 players state that they will be the best off-tanks. Lovely... Well with the description they have, it sounds like there won't be much of a difference from before, but I guess we'll find out.

- Now, the way it has been before is that the Shadowknight was just the evil version of paladin but apparently PALADIN is supposed to now be more a main tank class and not shadowknight? Pardon me for repeating myself but what the Norrath is going on! They say that Paladins, guardians and monks will be single target group. They will be best at fighting one npc at a time. In raid situations this means that you would want one of these classes to hold the attention of the main npc. Alright, now they are really not being cool with this stinking update. I must say, I have loved EQ2 for a very long time and not paid too much attention to nerfs because it hasn't really affected my playstyle much. Now this... is just a tad much.

Here are the particular spell changes:



Single Target

GUARDIAN

The Hold the Line spell line has been merged with the defensive stance lines.
The Iron Will Spell line has been merged with both the offensive and defensive stances.
The Battle Tactics line has been merged into the Call to Arms line of spells.
The offensive stance line will now increase damage done to the guardian and also has a damage-based proc while also reducing the hate gain of the guardian.
The defensive stance will now also increase the amount of taunts and increase the hate gain of the guardian.
The hate reduction of the Allay line has been reduced.
The Assault line now grants additional threat gains.
Reduced the recast of the Shout line.
The Kick line now generates additional threat.


PALADIN

The Redemption line now greatly increases your threat with the target instead of siphoning hate.
The Incite line now increases threat initially instead of overtime.
The Charge line now has a hate component.
The Divine Circle line now has a hate component.
The Blessing of the Penitent and Blessed Weapon lines have been merged into the offensive and defensive stances.
The Blinding Rays line has had its reuse time reduced.


MONK

The Martial Focus and Dragon stance lines have been merged into the monk’s stances.
The Stare line increase threat by more.
The Kick line now has a threat component.
The Cobra Circle line now increases threat to any targets it hits.
Beckon has had its reuse time lowered.


Group Target

BERSERKER

Berserk has been incorporated into the defensive and offensive stances.
The Battle Chant line has been merged into the Bloodlust line.
The Bullying Defense line has been merged into the defensive stance line.
Uproar has been moved to level 2 to fill in a gap created by the ability mergers.
The Growl line is now 10 second reuse and more powerful.
The Offend line has increased threat.
The Whirl line now has a threat component.
Reactive taunt strength of the Insolent Gibe line has been increased slightly.


SHADOWKNIGHT

The Dark Caress and Unholy Weapon lines have merged into the offensive and defensive stances.
Defensive stance line will lower damage but increase threat output.
Offensive stance boosts damage slightly but reduces hate gain.
Sickening Circle will also increase threat now.
The Kick line now has a threat component.


BRUISER

The Roughhouse and Dodge and Strike lines have been merged into the bruiser’s stances.
The Brag line is now more potent.
The Kick line now has a threat component.
The Blazing Strikes line now has a threat component.
The Impose line has faster reuse speed now.
